When we’re shopping for something, we often like to choose between multiple offers from different manufacturers, or at least multiple choices from a single manufacturer. However, when the choices number in the hundreds, the multitude of options can feel overwhelming.
This often happens when organizations set out to evaluate inverter manufacturers, in hopes of choosing the best fit. If you’re in this position, and you find it hard to choose an inverter manufacturer among the sea of options, making the four considerations below can help.
1. Manufacturing Process
A manufacturer that performs the production process in-house has a greater degree of control over quality control. Having a third party perform manufacturing may cut costs; however, on the customer’s end, cost savings don’t outweigh the lower product quality that’s commonly seen from third party manufacturing.
2. Equipment Certifications
Some inverter manufacturers offer special equipment certifications you may need, depending on how and where you use an inverter. Examples of such certifications include: Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) certification, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and TUV – TL9000 certification that was pioneered by the QuEST Forum in the late 1990s.
3. Maintenance Program
Some inverter manufacturers offer a maintenance program for the equipment they produce. This may not matter much if you perform inverter maintenance in-house or already have a maintenance contract with a third party.
However, if you require assistance with inverter maintenance, using a manufacturer’s maintenance program can come in handy, even if it’s a bit more expensive than third party maintenance. No one knows its products better than the manufacturer, so you can expect fast, informed service.
4. Custom Equipment
Most inverter manufacturers that produce custom equipment also sell stock equipment. Because you could need an inverter customization in the future, it’s never a bad idea to choose a manufacturer of both readymade solutions and custom solutions that meet the individual needs of clients.
