Some inverter manufacturers produce inverters for environments that don’t involve adverse operating conditions. At organizations large and small, you’ll find inverters in places such as electrical closets, along production lines, in data center workstations (where they connect to uninterruptible power supplies), and other areas that don’t put a significant amount of stress on the equipment.
Then there are inverters located in environments where a significant amount of stress is the norm, such as stress from unusual temperatures, unusual acoustics, high moisture density, heavy vibration, airborne contaminants, and other stressors that Level 3 Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) inverters are specifically designed to withstand.
What are NEBS Inverters?
Bell Labs developed NEBS standards in the 1970s to help standardize electronics the Bell’s regional operating centers. Since then, NEBS standards have been adopted outside of the telecommunications industry. Inverter manufacturers that offer NEBS inverters can offer as many as three basic type of inverters, based on the levels of NEBS certification: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3.
As Wikipedia explains, Level 1 NEBS inverters, which are primarily used for testing inverters prior to product launches, “address the personnel and equipment safety requirements of GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE” (Wikipedia). Level 2 inverters “address equipment operability in a controlled environment (usually datacenters) that will not be subjected to environmental stress.” Level 3 inverters are more flexible, [meeting] all of the requirements of GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE”.
Level 1 and Level 2 NEBS inverters are almost always found indoors, but Level 3 inverters are designed for outdoor applications that involve stressors the inverters are designed to withstand. Another difference between Level 3 inverters and other NEBS inverters is the former are most commonly used in industrial environments. As long as the inverter is maintained according to the owner’s manual, it can withstand adverse operating conditions for years on end.
Looking for NEBS Inverters?
If you need a Level 3 NEBS inverter for an operating environment whose adverse conditions Level 3 is designed to withstand, Exeltech is one of the best inverter manufacturers to get them from. We specialize in manufacturing industrial grade stock inverters and custom inverters. If a stock model inverter doesn’t meet your needs fully, we can create a custom model that does.
